Jerry Amaldev
Composer, Jerry Amaldev born in 1939, began singing at public meetings and liturgical events during his primary school days in Kochi, Kerala, India. He learned to play the organ by himself. He began composing at 13. He then pursued lessons in vocal music, piano and Tabla under maestros in Indore, Pune and Mumbai. During the late 50s to mid 60s, he was one of the pioneers to adapt music for catholic liturgies in Hindi, English and Malayalam. He has worked earnestly with other Christian denominations, too. At 25 he joined the legenday Bollywood music director, Naushad , in Mumbai as assistant and had the rare privilege of teaching songs to Rafi, Lata, Mukesh and Manna Dey under the maestros supervision.

In 1971 he obtained the Bachelor of Music degree from Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana and the Master of Fine Arts degree in Music Composition from Cornell University, New York.

The film, Manjil Virinja Pookal (1980), with Jerry's brilliant music score was a huge success. It shot him into instant fame. He was justly honoured with a State Award for being the best music director. He was awarded the same honour in 1985 and 1990.

His long cherished dream to train and conduct a choral group has come true in ROCK OF AGES, a milestone in the cultural annals of Cochin. He also heads the music department of the Choice School, Cochin.
