INCEPTION

The broad appeal of Choral Singing is based in the unsurpassed opportunity it gives each singer to participate in an activity that involves them artistically, enhances their skills, and results in a product of great beauty. It is this appeal that brought together a group of young talented people with a passion for music.

The idea of a CHORAL TEAM WITH A DIFFERENCE, germinated in the minds of a few music lovers based in Cochin in 2006. While choir teams under the banners of different Church denominations were dominating the scene, this Team was to be decidedly different in at least some ways.

With this idea in mind, good singers were identified irrespective of their church denominations and invited to audition. Simultaneously, veteran music director Mr. JERRY AMALDEV was also approached to train this group. Music lovers in Kerala hardly need an introduction to this immensely talented person who has left indelible footprints in the music world.

Mr. Jerry Amaldev graciously accepted the invitation and took up the challenge. He sifted and sorted the music enthusiasts and selected voices to form a four-part Choral team. And after much scrutiny, an orchestra was also identified to accompany the team.

PRESENTLY……

ROCK OF AGES, under the able tutelage of Mr. Jerry Amaldev has performed a variety of Choral Music taken from Mozart, Rossini, Cesar Franck, Popular Hits of Beatles, Carpenters, Abba , Hymns in Latin and German, to folk songs of international flavor boiling down to the Malayalam hits of Jerry Amaldev, their Music Director. The patronage of the elite music lovers of Kerala has encouraged Rock of Ages since the year, 2006. This choral group practices for 10 months tirelessly, to perform in front of an august audience by the end of the year.

COMPRISES…OF……

Rock Of Ages- a choral group of 33 voices, comprising of 11 Sopranos, 6 Altos, 10 Tenors and 6 Basses accompanied by top professional instrumentalists. The practice sessions are held twice a week, with total commitment, to sharpen the musical talents of the members.

OBJECTIVES

• To experiment with all kinds of music streams in this world – breaking the shackles of regional or     linguistic barriers.
• To develop a love of singing and thus create a lifelong interest in music.
• Foster the development of a larger and better – informed public of the art of choral music.
• Inspire and bring about more new music and more opportunities in the field of music.
• Reach out and help deserving youngsters to pursue music.
• To share the funds that they accumulate through the performances with deserving and promising    musicians who are financially backward.
• Stretch the boundaries of Excellence in community music.
• To organize concerts to meet the above objectives

Rock of Ages has 2 reasons for its existence, one is the Passion for Music, and secondly, the Eagerness to serve the Needy, especially in the field of Music. Out of the sales proceeds of our concerts, we sponsor deserving under-privileged music students. We intend to increase the beneficiaries each year.
